Twenty-Nine Players Named To GNAC Academic Football Team
SPOKANE - A total of 29 student-athletes have been named to the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic all-conference football team.
Dixie State offensive lineman Craig Johnson and quarterback Judd Thompson have the highest cumulative grade point average among the academic all-stars. Johnson is the leader at 3.82, while Thompson has a 3.71 average. Central Washington linebacker Adam Bighill and Dixie State wide receiver Skyler Ence each have 3.69 GPAs. Dixie State led the academic all-star selections with 12.
Two players - Andy Douglas and Sean Fullerton, both of Western Oregon, earned their third GNAC career academic award. Central Washington wide receiver Johnny Spevak is a four-time academic award winner, twice in the GNAC and twice in the North Central Conference, while Wildcat linebacker Buddy Wood is a three-time pick, twice in the GNAC and once in the NCC.
To be eligible for the GNAC academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
