ST. GEORGE – The Dixie State College women’s soccer team secured at least a share of the Pacific West Conference Championship with a 3-0 victory over the Academy of Art University at Hansen Stadium on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Red Storm is eligible for the NCAA Division-II Tournament with an automatic qualifier given to the Pac West Conference champion.

Dixie State (13-4, 12-1) won their final match at Hansen celebrating the collegiate soccer careers of four graduating seniors – Mikala Wilkes (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak HS '06), Carly Haycock (Bountiful. UT/Bountiful HS '06), Robyn Wall (Bountiful. UT/Bountiful HS '06) and Shannon Larsen (Salt Lake City. UT/Skyline HS '06). Academy of Art (3-14-2, 3-8-2) had a two-match win streak snapped being held to only one shot on goal.

Camille Peterson (North Logan. UT/Sky View) lit up the scoreboard with the game winner in the 49th minute converting on an open-net opportunity from the left side.

Haycock scored twice - in the 73rd minute beating AAU goalie Melissa Co to the left corner and again in the 89th minute off a Wilkes assist to push the final score to 3-0.

DSC goalies Abby Monroe (Escondido, CA/Mission Hills) and Tonya Smith (Eagle Mountain. UT/Lehi) split halves in goal. Smith got credit for the win making one save late in the second half.

The match was scoreless after the first 45 minutes although the Red Storm outshot the Urban Knights 14-0.

Dixie State will close out the regular season on Saturday night against Notre Dame de Namur University at Dixie High School. Kick off is scheduled for 8:00pm.
