QUEEN CREEK, ARIZONA – Dixie State College’s freshman duo of Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial High School) and Deanna Daniels (North Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) tabbed two top post-season awards announced by the Pacific West Conference Media Office on Wednesday, March 17.

Brown led the Red Storm in scoring en route to Freshman of the Year honors while Daniels earned a spot on the conference’s First Team. Joining Brown on the Second Team were seniors Tanya Clark (Beaumont. CA/Beaumont) and Jessie Ingraham (Tuscon. AZ/Canyon Del Oro).

Scoring 13.9 points a game to rank fourth in the conference, Brown paced Dixie State offensively in her first collegiate campaign. She ranked second in the Pac West in field-goal percentage (56%), eight in free-throw percentage (78%), tenth in rebounding with 6.1 boards, tenth in assists (2.8/game) and 15th in steals. Brown scored in double-figures 17 times including the last seven games in a row. She had a season-best 24 points against Grand Canyon on January 30. Brown nabbed consecutive PWC Player of the Week awards late in the season.

Daniels led all freshmen in the Pac West in rebounding to become the only Dixie State hoopster named to the Pac West First Team. Her seven rebounds a game ranked fifth in the conference. She also ranked first in offensive rebounds (3.6 per game), third in field-goal percentage shooting 55% from the floor, seventh in steals, 11th in scoring average and 13th in blocks. Daniels became the first Red Storm basketball player, man or woman, to post a triple double in Division-II play totaling 10 points, 10 rebounds and 12 steals against Hawaii-Hilo on March 4. She nearly matched the single-game rebounding record with 16 boards on February 16 at Chaminade. Daniels scored a season-high 23 points in back-to-back February wins against Grand Canyon and Hawaii-Hilo.

Tanya Clark
Clark became the DSC all-time steals leader this season en route to a Second Team accolade. The senior finished 22nd overall in the Pac West scoring 8.6 points per game. Clark also ranked second in offensive rebounds, fifth in free-throw percentage (81%), seventh in total rebounding, and eights in steals. In two years, Clark scored 464 points (5th in DSC D-II). She made the postseason PWC Second Team in both her junior and senior years.

Ingraham etched her name into the record books with a massive 33-point effort against Academy of Art University in San Francisco on January 16. This year’s second team nod backs up an honorable mention in 2008-09 and a preseason all-conference spot prior to this year. Ingraham finished second in three-point percentage at 45.1%, sixth in free-throw percentage, 10th in field-goal percentage and 16th in the Pac West in scoring at 11 points a game. She ranks in the top 10 in numerous Dixie State categories after two outstanding seasons: first in FG%, second is assists, third in points, third in FT%, fourth in rebounding, fourth in minutes played and tenth in steals.
Ingraham three point play at AAU

Grand Canyon’s Samantha Murphy was named conference Player of the Year and Laura Zasly of Notre Dame de Namur beat her twin sister Katie for Newcomer of the Year. Jeff Harada of Hawaii Pacific earned Coach of the Year leading the Lady Sea Warriors to the Pac West title and NCAA Tournament.
