The Red Storm golf team posted a 6th place standing at the Argonaut Invitational in Livermore, Calif. this week. Their total score of (+29) (893) was 33 strokes behind tournament winner Cal State University Stanislaus (-4) (860).
The Storm’s best play came in the tournament’s first round on Sunday. They shot a 294 team score. The team increased to 298 in the second round and closed with a 301 on Tuesday. The Storm competed in a quality field. Chico State University, the No. 1 team in Division II, placed second at (+1) (865) and Western Washington University, No. 7, finished just ahead of the Storm in fifth place with a (+22) (886).
Red Storm junior Chad Crowther, an integrated studies major from South Jordan, placed 10th in individual scores by recording a 218 total. His three rounds consisted of 71, 74, and 73. Senior Cameron Crawford, an accounting major from Sandy, came in at 18th with a 222 from his 71, 74 and 77 round scores.
Taylor Reardon, a senior integrated studies major from Las Vegas, tallied a 229 tournament total. Conner Jones, a junior integrated studies major South Jordan, was right behind at 230 and sophomore Kyle Chappel, a business administration major Richfield, stuck a 231 on the final scorecard.
One hundred and thirty nine golfers from 16 teams competed in the tournament hosted by Notre Dame de Namur University. The Red Storm are ranked No. 65 in the country out of 182 teams in the NCAA Division II ranks. The team resumes play on Mar. 28-30th in Phoenix at a tournament hosted by Grand Canyon University.
