Dixie State College golf was tabbed No. 7 in the NCAA D-II West Regional poll last Friday and on Tuesday finished at sixth place in the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational in Goodyear Ariz.
The Red Storm recorded an 867 total (+3), 21 strokes behind tournament winner No. 3 Cal State University Stanislaus (846, -18). The tournament was a rapid paced one with the 17-team field having to play 36 holes (1st & 2nd round) on Monday. The Storm shot a 291 (+3) first round and a much improved 285 (-3) second round. They finished with another 291 (+3) final round.
Storm senior Cameron Crawford (Sandy/Jordan HS) finished 18th in the individual results with a 215 total (-1). Crawford played his usual consistent way with a 72, 72, and 71. The tournament individual winner was Joseph Stewart of CSU Stanislaus with a 207 (-9).
Conner Jones (Jr-South Jordan/Bingham HS) finished even par. Jones’ total score was 216 (74, 70, 72) which placed him at 21st place.
Taylor Reardon (Sr-LV/Centennial HS) was 30th with his 219 (+3). Kyle Chappell (So-Richfield HS) totaled 220 (+4) and had the best single round of the Storm golfers with a 69 second round. Chad Crowther (Jr-South Jordan/Bingham HS) had a 224 (+8).
The Storm will prepare for the PacWest Conference Championship tournament on April 17 in Honolulu Hawaii.
