PHOENIX, AZ - Dixie State freshman forward Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, March 1, for games contested Feb. 22-28.
Brown powered the Red Storm to a 2-0 week by averaging 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. She tied for fifth in rebounding and tied for eighth in scoring for the week in the PacWest. She also ranked 10th in assists per game (3.5) and tied for sixth in steals per game (3.0). She was terrific from the foul line as well, shooting 90.9% after making 10 of 11 attempts.

Deanna Daniels - Dixie State (Fr., 5-11, F, North Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...averaged 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Red Storm...also averaged 2.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game...tied for third in steal average and ranked seventh in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
Richelle Fenebock - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-6, G, Coeur d’Alene, ID/Lake City)...scored 20 points in 71-70 win over Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 25 - the Seasiders’ lone game of the week...made a trio of three-pointers.
Kia Gibson - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-0, C, Nine Mile Falls, WA/Lakeside)...averaged 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Antelopes...tied for fifth in scoring in the PacWest for the week...tied for eighth in shooting (66.7%)...converted 12 of 18 field goal attempts...made 12 of 13 free throw attempts (92.3%).
Genesis Lewis - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-0, F, Paramount, CA/Paramount)...scored 20 points and collected 11 rebounds vs. Chaminade in HPU’s lone game of the week - a 78-56 victory over the Silverswords...made 52.9% (9 for 17) of her shots from the field.
Samantha Murphy - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-8, G, Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep)...helped Grand Canyon to a 2-0 week by averaging 19.0 points and 2.0 steals per game...ranked fourth in scoring for the week in the conference...shot 50.0% (13 for 26) from the field...made a pair of three-pointers.
Britini Ronolo - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 5-9, F, Honolulu, HI/Moanalua)...scored 14 points and collected 11 rebounds in lone game of the week - a 78-56 win over Chaminade on Feb. 25.
Hotia Vaaimamao - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., 5-10, F, Hilo, HI/Maui)...scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in tough 71-70 loss vs. BYU-Hawaii on Feb. 25 - the lone game of the week for the Vulcans...shot a solid 77.8% (7 for 9) from the floor...ranked fourth in shooting in the league for the week...also contributed two assists and two steals.
Katie Zasly - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 5-9, G, Foster City, CA/Aragon)...amassed 18 points, six steals and seven assists in 81-69 win over Academy of Art on Feb. 22 - the lone game of the week for the Argonauts.
Laura Zasly - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 5-9, G, Foster City, CA/Aragon)...posted 31 points and seven rebounds in 81-69 win over Academy of Art on Feb. 22 - the lone game of the week for the Argonauts...shot 66.7% (10 for 15) from the floor...also had five steals and made 42.9% (3 for 7) of her three-point attempts.
Editor’s Note: The BYU-Hawaii @ HPU and Chaminade @ UHH women’s basketball games scheduled for Feb. 27 were postponed due to tsunami warnings in Hawai‘i that were related to the earthquake in Chile. The games are rescheduled for March 8 @ 5:30 p.m. (HT).
