SAINT GEORGE, UT-The Dixie State College Women's Basketball team announced the signing of three players on the spring National Letter of Intent signing day.
Sheila Adams JR PG transfer from SLCC/Idaho State
Attended Layton High School where she was named All Region 3 times and All State her junior and senior years. Started her college career at Idaho State University where she played in all 31 games, starting 15. She finished the year averaging 2.6 rebounds and 5.7 rebounds. Transferred to Salt Lake Community College where she started 28 of 31 games while averaging nearly 9 points and 3 rebounds while leading the team in made 3 pointers. Sheila helped SLCC to a 25-6 record and a ranking of 5th in the nation.
Coach Kristensen: “Sheila is the consummate point guard that we have been looking to sign. She will give us a floor leader that can pass, shoot, or take someone off the dribble. Most importantly we have a player who understands the game and knows who needs the ball in crucial game situations. We couldn’t be happier to have Sheila join our family here at Dixie State.”
Erica Hayes JR G transfer from San Mateo College
Attended Menlo-Atherton high school in East Palo Alto, CA where she was the Peninsula Player of the Year and the Daily Journal’s Player of the Year after averaging nearly 17 points per game. Her college career took her to College of San Mateo, where she helped resurrect a program to its first playoff appearance in 6 years while leading the team in scoring and steals. This season she lead CSM to 3rd place finish in conference while leading the conference in scoring at nearly 20 points per game.
Coach Kristensen: “Erica is going to be a great combo guard at our level. Her strength is in her ability to take people off the dribble. She has unbelievable handles and moves, combined with a very quick first step make her very hard to guard. Defensively she has averaged close to 5 steals a game for CSM so we look for her to have an immediate impact on both ends of the floor. Erica will fit in very well with the system we have in place here at Dixie State.”
Erica Carlson SR C transfer from University of San Diego
Attended Can Del Oro high school in Tucson, AZ where she was named first team all-league while averaging 14.6 points and 12.5 rebounds. Chose University of San Diego from a number of DI offers out of high school. Played in 53 games over the last 3 seasons at USD. Played a season high 20 min while grabbing 6 boards in a victory over Boston College in the Championship game of the Maggie Dixon Classic.
Coach Kristensen: “Erica is going to be a dominate post player and a huge presence in the paint for us. She is a legitimate 6’4” with a great frame that we don’t usually see at this level. Her experience at University of San Diego will make this an easy transition and she should be able to come in and immediately contribute. We look for her to score when needed and provide the shot blocking and rebounding needed on the defensive end. We are very excited we get the opportunity to have Erica be part of our program for her senior year.”
Coach Angie Kristensen just completed her fourth year as head coach of the Red Storm and her most successful one to date. The Red Storm won 17 games and finished just one game away from first place in the Pacific West Athletic Conference.
