ST. GEORGE, Utah – Dixie State College women’s basketball coach Angela Kristensen announced the signing of two more players for her 2010-11 Red Storm squad. Noelle Milicic and Labrea Walker in the backcourt for DSC – a team that finished one game back for the Pacific West Conference in each of the past two years.
Milicic transfers from the College of Southern Idaho and bring decent height to the guard core.
“At 6'1" Noelle is a very versatile player that can play both the guard and forward positions. She will create many mismatches for us and has the ability to knock down shots from the outside. Her length will help us on the defensive in both the half court and when we press. Noelle had a number of looks from Division I schools at CSI before she went down with an ACL injury. Now that she is back 100% we feel like she has the opportunity to be a big contributor for us”, said Kristensen.
She was a 3A Nevada MVP at Boulder City High School in 2006-07. Two years ago at CSI, Milicic averaged 6.5 points and 3.7 rebounds her sophomore season.
Walker just finished her senior season at Desert Pines High School in North Las Vegas. The 4A Northeast League MVP averaged 25 points and almost eight boards a game.
"She was like a LeBron James or a Kobe Bryant to her teammates insofar as she got everybody involved and made everybody better," said Desert Pines coach Mel Washington, the Northeast coach of the year. "She was an all-around player.”
Kristensen added, "Labrea is someone we feel like has her best basketball ahead of her and is a diamond in the rough. She is very quick with the ball and has a knack for scoring. We look for her to become a great on the ball defender and apply a lot of ball pressure in the full court. I look forward to watching Labrea progress and feel she could be a great player at this level."
The duo will play with the Red Storm in the exhibition season in 2010 in games against Southern Utah University, Utah State and UNLV.
