ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College is pleased to announce that Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) has been drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 40th Round (1,224 overall) of the 2010 MLB Draft.
“I am really excited for the opportunity to continue playing and doing what I love”, said Oldfield in a phone interview. He praised the coaching staff at Dixie State in his development. “A lot of coaches I have been around have had good things to say, but sometime you question it. Not here - I don’t think Dixie could have a better coaching staff.” He thanked Mike Littlewood, Trent Pratt, Ron Wright and Brent Haring for helping him grow over the past two years.
Oldfield just completed his senior season hitting .312 with 12 home runs and 49 runs batted in. The switch hitter hit 31 homers in two years with the Red Storm with a combined .324 batting average.
Littlewood, DSC Head Coach, thinks the Angels have picked up a gamer. “Drew will go out and play hard, no matter how he feels. His two years of work (at DSC) have paid off.”
Prior to Dixie State, Oldfield played at Salt Lake Community College and Rangeview High School.
The Aurora, CO native is the first DSC player selected by a major league organization in the 2010 draft.
