(ST. GEORGE, UT – August 17, 2010) This past week Dixie State Head Football Coach Scott Brumfield was admitted to the hospital with back pains. During the evaluation period they felt it was necessary to conduct additional tests. The Brumfield family announced today that lab results indicate that he tested positive for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Brumfield has chosen to use the Intermountain Health Centers Cancer Unit located here in St George. Chemotherapy treatment has already begun and will be followed by radiation treatments as well.

“Coach Brumfield is a beloved member of our campus community. We ask all members of the Dixie State family, as well as Coach Brumfield’s many friends and colleagues, to keep him in their thoughts and prayers at this time,” said DSC Athletic Director Jason Boothe. “We are grateful for the care he has received and is now receiving.”

Coach Brumfield and his family wish to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff at Dixie Regional Medical Center who have provided and continue to provide excellent medical care.

Boothe continued, “The Red Storm family is very supportive of the Brumfield family and will stand completely behind him during this trial in his life. We would ask that his privacy be respected as he recuperates and determines a course of action.”

While Brumfield undergoes his medical treatment, the DSC coaching staff will run the day-to-day football operations.
