Red Storm Softball named 2010 NCAA DII Batting Average Champion

SAINT GEORGE, UT-The NCAA announced in a memo today that the Dixie State College softball team is the 2010 Division II statistical champion for Batting Average.
The Red Storm collected a school record of 535 hits in 1442 at bats on their way to setting another school record hitting a stellar .371. Dixie State outpaced Benedict College who finished second with a .368 average and fellow PacWest member Grand Canyon University finished fourth with a .353 average.
Dixie State had five players finish with averages over the .400 mark. Bailie Hicken led the way with a .459 average, followed by Johnna Brown’s .426 average, Shantae Hunters’s .420 average, Breanna Egge’s .413 average and Anna Cue’s .401 mark.
The Red Storm finished with a 39-14 mark and clawed their way to the West Regional Championship game before falling to Chico State 4-3. It marked the second consecutive season the Red Storm made a postseason appearance.
