ST. GEORGE – On Friday morning at Hansen Field, the Dixie State College men’s soccer team definitively started their scrimmage season with a 4-1 victory over Western Wyoming CC.
The returning players who staked the Red Storm to a four-goal advantage impressed head coach Danny Ortiz.
Francisco Rivero (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) put the Storm on the board from center, 18-yards out with an unassisted goal in the 40th minute. Dixie State took the one-goal lead to halftime.
After the break, Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View) contributed on the next two scores. His pass to Josh Hernandez (Kaysville, UT/Davis) on the left in the 54th minute made it 2-0. Later in the half, Roylance scored from the middle of the field on a nice setup from Tyler Albretsen (Pleasant View, UT/Weber).
Dixie State netted a fourth goal from Albretsen unassisted at the 79:38 mark.
Western Wyoming avoided the shutout netting a 20-yard shot with less than three minutes left on the clock.
The Red Storm will conclude their scrimmage season with a home tilt against UNLV on Saturday, August 28 at 5:00pm at Hansen Stadium. Regular season competition commences on September 4 in Phoenix when Dixie State participates in the Grand Canyon Classic against Saint Martin’s University.
