ST. GEORGE - After taking a Division-I opponent (UNLV) to the brink of a scoreless tie earlier in the week, the Dixie State Red Storm women’s soccer team went back to work on their field Friday night handily defeating the visiting Bruins of Salt Lake Community College 4-0 in an exhibition scrimmage at Hansen Stadium.
Returning midfielder Camille Peterson-Jensen (North Logan, UT/Sky View) put the Storm on the board in the sixth minute depositing a 15-yard shot from center from Marissa Granato (Sandy, UT/Alta) into the net.
Twelve minutes later, Erin Beeston (Edmond, OK/Edmond North) snuck the ball past the left post for a 2-0 lead assisted by Jessica Michie (Purcellville, VA/Louden Valley).
Mindy Beckstrom (Nibley, UT/Mountain Crest) mimicked Beeston’s shot in the 33rd minute off a beautiful cross from Jordyn Hutchinson (Saint George, UT/Dixie) for a 3-0 lead. Freshman Kat Haynie (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) followed her first shot off the goalkeeper and in for a goal at 37:02 to push the Dixie State lead to 4-0 heading into halftime.
Starting goalkeeper April Beck (American Fork, UT/American Fork) did not face a shot in the first half. In the second half, Abby Monroe-Johnson (Escondido, CA/Mission Hills) faced a pair of shots on goal to preserve the shutout of the Bruins.
Dixie State complete scrimmage play on Sunday, August 29 at Cal State San Bernardino. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00am Mountain.
