CHEERLEADER/MASCOT POLICY

1. All cheerleaders dressed in uniform and one (1) mascot will be allowed into away games free.

2. The host institution will determine the space where both the home and visiting cheerleaders can be during a live ball.  The area for the visiting squad will accommodate the number of cheerleaders appropriate to the facility space and up to a maximum of ten (10) cheerleaders and one (1) mascot.

3. The cheerleaders cannot stand or perform in front of seated audiences during live balls.  (If cheerleaders are in front of seated audiences they must kneel or be seated.)  The cheerleaders’ area will be designed near and on the end of the floor closest to their own team’s bench.

4. Appropriate seating/space shall be provided for the visiting cheer squad.  If bringing additional cheer squad members beyond the ten and one mascot, notify the visiting AD of the number coming to insure appropriate seating for squad.

5. Visiting cheerleaders can have their whole squad on the floor during dead ball times only when the host institution designates.

6. Cheerleaders are an official part of the event and they represent their institutions.  They should perform according to good sportsmanship standards especially during the shooting of free throws.  Cheerleaders cannot be in the extended free throw lane area during the shooting of a free throw.

7. Cheerleaders can use megaphones as long as they use them for cheering (no pounding on the floor) rather than as an artificial noisemaker.  No artificial noise makers of any kind can be used by cheerleaders.

8. Mascots are governed by the same rules as the cheerleaders.  They should be removed form the area if they openly flaunt or mock the game officials.

9. Cheerleaders will not perform during thirty (30) second timeouts (Basketball Rule book)
